Weekly Grind

I will start with a picture of the wildfires across our Lane. See 👇🏻

I saw that and immediately thought of the poor animals! Most have lost their home and the wildfires are continuing on!!

Now onto the weekly grind...

My Speech therapist is absolutely amazing. She had to call me the other day and heard my old voice on the voicemail greeting!

We worked on my pitch today.

Normally when I talk, we found that my hertz range is that of a child's. I talk within the 300+ range. The normal range for a woman is around 160. So we worked on lowering my pitch and I got down to 170s, which is pretty darn close!

We also worked on a ton of words with "v" and "f" sounds as those letters sound nonexistent when I try to speak them.

I've learned the pitch is because of one of the strokes I had.

We also have learned that after nearly every sentence I say, I giggle. This is a product of one of my strokes too. I never was a giggly type of girl. I was outgoing and an extrovert - but never a chronic giggler.

So we worked on not giggling and maybe either exhaling or simply humming. The exhaling worked greatly.

As we were talking she said she could tell that I was really thinking hard. Thinking about lowering my pitch, thinking about not giggling, thinking about the next word I was going to say. My brain is constantly running!

We talked about some of my personal battles and at the end of my session she asked if she could give me a hug. Heck yes! I could use a thousand hugs!

Now onto PT! We work so well together and I love our sessions! I have made vast improvements since the last time they saw me. We worked on some balancing exercises. Trying to stand on one foot, putting one foot in front of the other (think heel to toe), and they strapped me in a belt that was hooked to the wall. I had to walk away from the wall and resist getting pulled back to the wall. They gave me some wonderful exercises to work on at home and boy will I be working extra hard!!

I had another lovely drive with my lady driver from VPAS. She's always wonderful to talk to and I love hearing about her family and how close she is with her siblings. It's like I live vicariously through her.
