I had a wonderful time the other day. I spent the evening with my grandmother who is in her 90s!! I also had my Bible study with women who truly don’t judge. We all go through stormy seasons.
My grandmother commented and praised how much I’ve improved. It’s always nice to hear from others how they view my improvements.
She said that when I first started coming around after my accident, she could see that I barely spoke. I would only talk to others if they were the ones that asked me questions. Other than that, I stayed quiet.
But now, she says that I actually initiate conversation. I step in and start talking.
I want to say that I have Speech Therapy to thank for that. Both at Augusta Medical Outpatient Therapies and at the JMU Speech Clinic. They have helped my speech a and my tone, but they have also helped with my confidence.
I went on and casually mentioned the trauma with my family. She said with sadness in her voice - that is so sad. But hey, you are a part of our family and am happy that you’re still with us! She really is a sweet woman. I enjoy spending time with her and seeing her light up when she talks about her husband and what the past looked like for her. I treasure these moments ❤️
