Outpatient Therapies

Writer's picture: Jules DJules D

Four days after I was discharged, I start my outpatient therapies!

SLP has found that I have something called, 'dysarthria.' Which means I have slurred speech. But she noted that because of my facial paralysis I have slower speech and can't annunciate as well. Because of this, she has noted that she wants to start off by seeing me twice a week for the next four weeks.

For PT today, he has listed that I have impaired balance and coordination. He showed me how to safely use a trekking pole and suggested that I get one at home to use for safety purposes. He noted that my limitations are in driving, walking, and doing household chores. Poor husband of mine, I still have those issues and limitations!! PT wants to see me at least twice a week for the next ten weeks due to my limitations because of my cerebellar stroke. I am able to also do a one-legged stand for TWO seconds. I'm pretty sure this is still what I can do! Not to say that PT did NOT help me. It helped me tremendously!! But with the negativity I was still receiving from outside resources, I stumbled back. I took a huge step backwards and am now trying to recover.

OT has basically said what everyone else has said. That have a bunch of limitations because of TBI, Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, and Cerebellar Stroke. She wants to see me twice a week for the next twelve weeks so we can go over how to do things safely.

This is truly the start of it all and how my months will be up until February. Of course, I'll keep updating you with the notes I'm provided with!! But this is the sort of help the doctors said I would need. Help with getting to and from appointments. Moving safely around my house.

When I got home the community and church were so amazing! They had a meal sign-up sheet and provided delicious home cooked meals and brought them to my house so me and my family could enjoy the food and eat! I appreciated and loved this SO MUCH. But you have to know, there have been and still are people who weasel themselves into my life to bring only negativity. For this amazing act of kindness and generosity, I was ridiculed and talked down on for not being able to cook meals for my family. Believe me, I was able to put things into the oven and my husband took those items out of the oven for me. But yes, I was spoken lowly of for accepting these delicious meals!

Now we will always have people like this. We just can't help it!

As Ephesians 4:29 says, "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear."

So, according to the Bible we are NOT to make fun of our brothers and sisters. We are to build them up! Do not place judgement onto others, as our great Maker will place judgement on us.
