Ocular Plastic Surgery

My surgeon put yellow eye drops in my eye and shined a blue light on them to see if there are any damages to my eyes. Basically my cornea on the right eye no longer has a protective barrier. So the cells need to regenerate and actually protect my eye.

To close the eye, my surgeon needs to bring up my lower eyelid and tighten it up. I believe he said he was going to use a wire of sorts. Then he is going to suture my eyelids together just a little bit. This is called, tarsorrhaphy. Then lastly he is going to put a gold weight in my eyelid to help my eye close.

His focus is my right eye right now because the protective barrier is gone and it’s the one that doesn’t completely close.

He told me at one point that if I was allergic to gold, then he would use platinum weights. I'm not allergic to gold, but maybe I'm feeling bougie.

We got to this point after he spoke of every single possibility. Sewing my eyelids shut was one idea. Which he said some people don't like because it gets rid of their peripheral vision completely.

Then he mentioned doing just the gold weights. But with my eyes and facial paralysis, it wouldn't be enough.

One option, he said may actually work, is called doing an eyelid spring. He said he doesn't do them because he's not trained or licensed to do them. And he doesn't know of anyone who does it. Basically it would be extremely difficult for me to find someone who does it.

Which leaves us to sewing my eyelids, adding the gold weights, and then adding in a lift on my lower eyelid!

Now onto seeing him in a couple of short weeks to figure out what size of weights I need!

Wish me luck. Say a prayer! It's all in Gods hands :)
