I have been in music therapy for the past month. It's a free service to those who have TBI through Andersen Music Therapy as they have a grant through the state to offer so many weeks of music therapy for free. The best part...they also do it virtually!! As I am a couple hours away from them, it is very helpful! In my next post I'll be sure to tag them so those in Virginia with TBI have access to them.
Let me just say, it is truly therapeutic! We write songs and spend the last 15 minutes-ish of doing guided imagery or a muscle relaxation. I've been writing songs with my therapist, who is absolutely amazing, and I will share the first song I wrote with you tonight! I hope you enjoy it. It's about my journey. One of my favorite lines is the title of this post.
Verse 1:
I’m not a stranger to the dark
I feel distant from people
Because it’s hard to leave the house
I miss spending time with my friends
It’s hard for us to get together
Because we live so far away
But I won't let that bring me down
I have my community of sisters
For we help each other out
Chorus:
I am a child of God
A daughter of Christ
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
Verse 2:
Another round of bullets hit my skin
Fire away cause today I won't let the shame sink in
I am keeping my boundaries
Though it hurts other people
It’s what I need for my recovery journey
But I won’t let that bring me down
I have my community of sisters
For we pray for each other
Chorus:
I am a child of God
A daughter of Christ
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
And I know i deserve your love, There is nothing I’m not worthy of
Chorus:
I am a child of God
A daughter of Christ
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
