My giant packet of goodness pictured to restart my therapies! By talking with others, I have a feeling these therapies will be a lifetime adventure.
Today, in the State of Virginia, is Advocacy Day. Traumatic Brain Injuries are not defined as a chronic illness both on the state and federal levels.
The definition of a chronic illness is, "A chronic condition (also known as chronic disease or chronic illness) is a health condition or disease that is persistent or otherwise long-lasting in its effects or a disease that comes with time. The term chronic is often applied when the course of the disease lasts for more than three months."
It is going on two years for me, and I am still recovering from the effects!
Since it is advocacy day, I wrote to my Delegate, State Senator, Congressman, and both U.S. Senators. I gave them all a synopsis of what a TBI is. What I have experienced and what I still am experiencing. What a chronic condition is and that TBI is not on the "neurological issues" list of chronic conditions. How viewing it as a chronic condition can greatly help the medical care received, as well as the rehabilitation care.
I also restated that a chronic condition lasts longer than three months and I am going on two years.
This will also help get TBI out into the public eye! People will know about it as I had never known it even existed until it happened to me. And we can help the recovery process be even greater and more successful. There are some that don't even recover. They almost deteriorate. I am thankful I am still here and still pushing forward on my recovery process!
As you read this, I urge you to look for your legislators and reach out to them.
Here is how you can find who is over your area!!
