Place of Freedom

Every one of us has a past. That is something we ALL have in common! Now what our past entails... that is what makes us unique. We all have life lessons that differ from the other. These life lessons have shaped us into who we are now. Some people experience life lessons that leave them feeling bitter and full of hate; and some people experience life lessons that leave them feeling enriched and full of life and love.

I am here to tell you that your past does not need to define who you are now. As it was explained to me by my beautiful soul of a counselor, what you judge now will come back to you or to your children.

For example, if someone experiences a traumatic childhood and they end up leaving home at a young age and then go through life stating "I will never be like that person. They are horrible. They are evil. They are everything that is wrong with the world." Well guess what... that treatment will come back to you in one way or another. Either through your future spouse or it'll come back onto your children. I would not want my past to unfold onto my children!

So this place of freedom, is a place where you forgive all transgressions. You do not judge what others have done to you - you forgive and give it all to God for Him to handle. And then... you move on! It has taken me over 20 years to learn about this. I truly wish I would have known about God's freedom sooner!

If you do not think you can do this on your own, then don't! That is what counselors are for. To help you talk through everything, to help you let go of the past and move forward to a brighter future.

If you are unsure of how to let go and give it to God, here is a simple prayer for you to read:

"Lord, I struggle sometimes with forgiveness. I struggle to give it. I struggle to receive it.

Thank you for loving me enough to die for me, for wiping my sins away and erasing my wrongs. I'm sorry for ignoring this free gift of grace, sorry for rejecting the forgiveness you offer me. I know I am not perfect and need a Savior. Thank you for saving me. I am letting go of the shame of the past and accepting this fresh start, this new day with new mercies.

Help me also to extend forgiveness to others just as You have extended forgiveness to me. Even on days when it's hard, when I'm angry, when I'm hurt, when I don't see change... even then, show me how to forgive.

In Jesus' name, Amen."

Enjoy this beautiful song and let it speak to you.

I do not own the rights to this song.
