Caged Birds

I'll never forget what my therapist said to me once. "No, it is not a person's fault if they have a mental illness. But, it is their responsibility to get help."

People struggling are oblivious sometimes to the cages they are in. Depression, anxiety, etc. We become so accustomed to the cage that we start to decorate it with our own excuses. It becomes home to us.

A safe place.

A shelter.

We hide the door with blame for others and the past casts shadows over all the windows. The phrase "I have anxiety" becomes the excuse to not pursue our dreams and goals.

Here is a glimpse at the door...

…if you are stuck in the cage...

….reach out for help.
