...aka, my date being released!!
As of right now, my anticipated discharge date is on July 27th. This is the first time they have mentioned it to my husband and I and this is the first time it is officially written in the notes! Over two weeks to go! We did discuss our pending camping trip that was upcoming. We normally do the trips at the start of August. But we did not end up going!! I had some major recovering to do once I got home!
Today I had the pleasure of working with OT and Therapeutic Recreation at the same time. They both said my time spent with them was "very good." I played some hover soccer in my wheelchair. I painted, which I've learned is something I go to when I feel immense pain. I also got to learn more about Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley, which they have been absolutely amazing!
In OT, as well, she had me do some threading of small beads to work on my hand/eye coordination. I did some side-stepping, as well. I got to pick up barrels and place them in their correct spots on the floor.
In PT, I got to walk outside a little today! See, I am moving forward. Even when left behind!!
"Jess tolerates walking outside on uneven surfaces for the first time today. She is walking farther and is able to do so without any UE support most of the time, though she does use 1 railing when negotiating ramps/stairs."
Today I met with Rehab Psychology. I had a lot of concerns to share with him. You may read it below.
"Status and Progress: Mrs. Damico reported her parents have returned to Michigan sooner than originally planned. Their relationship is quite strained and she has not spoken with them since they departed. They remain adamantly opposed to her decision to return home with her husband, which has not lead to any change in Mrs. Damico's decision. She expressed concern about her children who were apparently brought into the discordant dynamics, and one of her sons has expressed concern about returning home. Her sons are currently living with their biological father, with whom Mrs. Damico shares custody, and she is concerned they will somehow be kept from her. She insisted she would take legal action if needed. Mrs. Damico reported she had no concerns returning home and feels safe and supported by her husband. Given the significant level of stress surrounding her injury and rehab, discussed resuming outpatient mental health services post discharge. Mrs. Damico was seeing Jennifer A, MA for psychotherapy on a monthly basis and plans to resume services with her. She is also planning to seek counseling for her sons. Despite the family discord and distress this has caused for Mrs. Damico, she continues to engage in rehab therapies and is making good gains."
I, unfortunately, cannot go into detail about my kids. But know when I had concerns, they would be kept from me, that became true. I didn't see them for over a MONTH. I did, however and unfortunately, resume mental health counseling. However, she turned all of my medical records and session notes over to more than five people and that can never be undone. All of it happened without my consent. So, shocker, not shocker, I stopped seeing her. My husband and I go to Pastoral counseling, and I now see a TBI Counselor who says he will never betray my trust like that. He is my guard dog, as he says. He is there to protect me. I mean, I already went through something traumatic!!
Trauma is seriously something I experience in the next year. Can you believe it? I still can't! This is how people want to treat someone who has gone through TBI, strokes, almost died a few times, and multiple other things! But I definitely don't want this whole blog to be about the evils of this world. I want it to be about the goodness of God and how TBI changes a life! And preferably what environment a TBI survivor NEE:DS to recover.
My nutritionist followed up with me on this day and it was especially cute what I said about lasagna!
"Met with pt at lunch meal and she ate 75% of meal. She fed herself without assistance using plastic utensils. Remains on minced and moist diet. She is enjoying the food in house and wishes they would serve lasagna more. She continues to drink the Ensure Enlive strawberry/chocolate at breakfast and lunch meals. This provides an additional 700kcal and 40g protein. Pt tube feedings have been discontinued and will discontinue ProSource as po intake has improved.".
On the night my parents left, I did NOT fall asleep until 11:00PM. I fall asleep now at 8:00 or 9:00 at night! I cannot do the 11:00PM time. This girl cannot hang like that.
